Police descend on College Avenue home for alleged gun call

Winnipeg police responded to a home in the 300 block of College Avenue around 1:30 am after receiving a report that the people inside were armed with guns.

General Patrol officers along with members of the Tactical Support Team surrounded the two-storey building and ordered the occupants out of the home.

An initial group of five people exited the house one at a time and were taken into custody.

Police brought in their tactical armoured vehicle (ARV-1) and placed it in front of the house. Using a public address system officers ordered the rest of the residents out of the building. An additional five people eventually complied and surrendered to officers.

In an emailed statement to News 4, Winnipeg Police Service said “Multiple occupants were located within the residence and interviewed; however, the call for service was deemed unfounded.”

Police cleared the scene shortly before 3:00 am after it was determined that no further police action was required.
