Police closing station duty offices amid COVID-19 concerns

Winnipeg Police have closed all WPS Station Duty offices effective 4:00 pm today until further notice.

This has been done to reduce the risk of officers contracting the virus during contact with the public.

Police say that only those with appointments will be permitted to attend the station duty offices including those pending charges or scheduled for fingerprints.

Police say that the closure of the offices will not impact their ability to respond to emergency calls or give priority to ongoing investigations.

Officials also noted that when you call 911 for emergencies call takers will be asking questions concerning your health and if you are self-isolating. The purpose is to be able to prepare officers to safely help you.

Police are asking the public to use online reporting methods or the non-emergency number 204-986-6222 for non-emergent requests for service.

The WPS is suspending reporting of non-urgent motor vehicle collisions and hit-and run reporting until further notice.

Fingerprinting services for the public has also been suspended at this time.

Criminal Record Checks can be started online at https://winnipeg.ca/police/pr/PIC.stm#pic

If you need emergency service from the police you can call 911.
