On the night of May 10, 2024, North District General Patrol Officers spotted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with no plates in the 100 block of Selkirk Avenue. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the two occupants refused to stop and sped northbound on Main Street, leading the police on a high-speed chase out of the city.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were immediately notified as the suspect vehicle continued its reckless journey northbound. Air1, the police helicopter, was deployed and observed the vehicle travelling at high speeds and dangerously driving into oncoming traffic through Narol, Lockport, Selkirk, Breezy Point, and Clandeboye, Manitoba.
In a coordinated effort, multiple tire deflation devices were deployed successfully, bringing the suspect vehicle to a halt. The two occupants attempted to flee on foot but were swiftly apprehended by the police.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the truck had been stolen from Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. A 36-year-old male, one of the occupants, was arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of a Weapon, Failure to Comply with Probation Order, Failure to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2, and three outstanding warrants. He also faces various Highway Traffic Act Offences.
The male suspect remains in custody, while an adult female, who was also in the vehicle, was released without any charges.
