A wild car chase through Winnipeg’s streets came to a dramatic end on April 20, 2024, as police apprehended a 25-year-old woman following a series of dangerous maneuvers.
Around 9:05 p.m., concerned citizens in Winnipeg’s West End reported a car careening erratically. The vehicle, a 2019 Honda Civic, was spotted driving recklessly in the River Heights neighborhood.
When police attempted to pull it over, the driver refused to comply. Instead the Honda collided with a police car and sped away, with officers in pursuit.
Air1, the police helicopter, joined the chase, providing crucial aerial support as ground units chased the suspect through Charleswood. The pursuit continued until the car crashed near the intersection of Roblin Boulevard and Greenbrier Avenue. The mangled vehicle came to a halt, unable to move any farther.
As officers approached the scene, the driver emerged from the wrecked car. Luckily no injuries were reported among law enforcement or bystanders.
The 25-year-old Winnipeg woman now faces a list of charges, including:
– Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon x 2
– Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
– Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
– Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both
– Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand
She was released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
