A fatal vehicle collision is under investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).

According to the IIU, Mordon Police had attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle around midnight on January 22, 2021, the driver of the vehicle did not comply and fled.

The officer began a pursuit but ended it out of a concern for safety. The fleeing vehicle was found shortly afterwards flipped onto its side in a field.

The driver and passenger were found by police outside the vehicle suffering significant injuries. Both were taken to hospital however the passenger died shortly afterwards from his injuries.

The IIU assumed responsibility for the investigation since there was a fatality following police interaction.
