It was a short lived police chase that ended in the suspect vehicle crashing into another car.
Just after 10:30 pm on Tuesday Winnipeg Police noticed a suspicious vehicle. When officers activated their emergency lights and siren the car took off and police gave chase.
The suspects didn’t travel very far when they slammed into a car on Ellice Avenue sending the driver of the car they hit, who is in his 60’s, to hospital in unstable condition. He has since been upgraded to stable.
The 30 year old suspect driver took off on foot but was captured by police a short time later. He now faces a number of charges for his alleged involvement:
- Drive Impaired Cause Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Cause Bodily Harm
The accused driver remains in custody.
Because police were actively involved in a pursuit when the collision occurred Manitoba’s police watchdog the Independent Investigations Unit has been called in and are investigating the incident.
Police have not said what caused the officers to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle in the first place.
