A man and woman in their 20s are facing charges after a crime spree in Winnipeg between June 5 and August 28, 2023.
According to police more than 300 pairs of designer sunglasses worth over $116,000 were stolen during six thefts.
- On June 5, 2023, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 23 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $5600 and fled.
- On June 12, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 30 pairs of designer eyeglass frames valued at over $11,000 and fled.
- On June 23, 2023, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 60 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $22,000 and fled.
- On July 6, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 46 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $21,000 and fled.
- On August 4, 2023, at approximately 6:35 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 67 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at almost $30,000 and fled.
- On August 28, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while attempting to conceal their identity. The suspect selected 72 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at over $25,000 and fled.
Investigators executed a search warrant at an apartment suite in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway. Officers recovered more than 40 pairs of designer glasses woth more than $12,000.
22-year-old Anthony Rodriguez of Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with six counts of Theft Over $5,000. He was detained in custody.
A 20-year-old female has been charged for her alleged involvement with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.
She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
