City of Winnipeg Councillor Ross Eadie has been reprimanded by the Winnipeg Police Board for disclosing confidential information to council.
At a Police Board meeting on Friday Chair David asper said that Eadie had “breached an obligation of confidentiality,” by disclosing the potential location of the Winnipeg Police Service’s new North District Station.
Last month Eadie told city council that the new station was going to be built on land that is currently home to the North Winnipeg Nomads Football Club and it is where they play their home games. He told council that construction of the new facility would leave the club homeless.
Asper said he chose to reprimand Eadie instead of asking for his removal from the board because he believed Eadie was acting out of concern for his constituents when he revealed the confidential information.
For his part Eadie agrees that he should not have breached the confidentiality of the board.
Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth said in May after Eadie leaked the information that before the new station would be built there would be a consultation process with area residents and stakeholders including the football club.
