Approval from city council still needed

Winnipeg Police Association members have agreed to the contract negotiated on their behalf with the city.

95 % of uniform and civilian members voted in favour of the deal that will see annual pay increases until the deal expires.

• 2.49 % in 2017 
• 2.61 % in 2018
• 1.63 % in 2019 
• 1.61 % in 2020
• 1.59 % in 2021

The total additional cost to the taxpayer for the pay raises is approximately $54 million oner the life of the contract. Currently there are 1,443 uniformed police officers and 526 civilian members in the bargaining unit.

Part of the deal will also see some of the tasks performed by police officers taken over by civilian staff and Winnipeg Police Auxiliary Cadets.

Although the contract has been ratified by the union members it still has to be approved by city council which is expected to happen on Wednesday afternoon.
