Police ask caregivers to check halloween candy after some kids were given THC edibles

Winnipeg Police are investigating after candy containing THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a substance found in cannabis, was given to children in the South Tuxedo area of the city on Halloween.

Police say that they received at least a half dozen reports about THC Nerds edibles discovered in children’s candy bags after trick-or-treating.

The potency of THC can vary in products but it is responsible for the way your body and brain respond to cannabis. This includes the feeling of being high or intoxicated.

The effects of THC can be harmful to children.

Investigators say that the THC candy was packaged to look like the popular children’s candy. The edibles were packaged along full-size chocolate bars in sipped sandwich bags.

Police are encouraging parents and caregivers to check their children’s candy.

Police are continuing to investigate and ask anyone who discovers a similar package with THC items to avoid handling it and set it aside for police. Investigators can be contacted at (204) 986-6219.
