The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit made arrests in a serious assault investigation that had remained unreported for over a year.
The investigation dates back to November 2024, when authorities began looking into an assault that occurred in December 2023 but had not been reported at the time. According to police, the incident involved a female victim in her 20s who was at a residence in the 200 block of College Avenue, along with two men she knew.
Police say all parties reportedly had connections to the criminal drug subculture. During a disagreement, the suspects amputated one of the victim’s fingers. Although she sought medical treatment for her injuries, she did not file a police report immediately following the incident.
The Major Crimes Unit continued their investigation and secured arrest warrants for the two male suspects.
On January 6, 2025, officers arrested 28-year-old Maxim Dale Garneau at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre, where he was already in custody on unrelated charges. Garneau now faces a charge of Aggravated Assault.
On January 31, police arrested 37-year-old Alexander Paul Doyle at the same correctional facility, also on a warrant for Aggravated Assault, while he too faced unrelated charges.
Both men remain in custody.
