A crime spree across parts of the city was put to an end with the arrest of a male and female suspect.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit were able to identify the two suspects after robberies at six businesses and an April 16, 2018, carjacking of an adult female in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West.
On Thursday, April 19, 2018, officers located the suspects at a hotel in the 700 block of Main Street. The male suspect was standing outside the vehicle that had been carjacked earlier in the week and the female was inside the vehicle.
As officers approached, the male took off into the hotel and police gave chase. He was quickly taken into custody. The female was arrested outside the hotel.
Investigators say that the male suspect was responsible for the following robberies and the carjacking between March 28 and April 19, 2018.
- a smoke shop in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.
- a beer vendor in the first 100 block of Marion Street.
- a convenience store in the 1000 block of McGregor Street.
- gas bar in the 1400 block of Henderson Highway.
- gas bar in the 1600 block of Ness Avenue.
- gas bar in the 700 block of St. James Street
The female was only involved in the Ness Avenue and St. James Street gas bar robberies police say.
Darrell Jack Watson Nicholson, 24 from Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with seven counts of robbery, seven counts of Disguise with intent, two charges for Possession of a weapon, He was also charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 as well as Possession of a Scheduled Substance for powdered Xanax police found in him at the time of his arrest. Nicholson also faces 14 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
Carlene Crystal Pruden, 22 from Winnipeg, has been charged for her alleged involvement with two counts of Robbery and six counts of Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice
Both Nicholson and Pruden were detained in custody.
