Just after 11:15 pm on February 6, 2017 Winnipeg Police officers responded to the 500 block of Magnus Avenue after receiving a report of an injured male. When police arrived they found 28 year old Canon Franklin Beardy was suffering from multiple serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

On February 16, 2017  police arrested and charged a 14 year old boy with second degree murder.

A month later, on March 23, 2017 a second suspect was arrested. A 16 year old male was charged with second degree murder and a number of other offences.

Earlier this morning, May 25, 2017, investigators have arrested a third suspect in the killing. Joshua Leclerc, 20 from Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder and Breach of Recognizance for his alleged involvement in the homicide.
