Police arrest suspect after a five-hour standoff

A five-hour standoff with Winnipeg Police on Monday, January 27, 2020, has resulted in the arrest of one suspect and a number of weapons-related charges.

Police say that officers descended on an apartment building in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue around 3:30 pm after they received reports that a male was armed with a firearm inside.

The suspect was ordered out of the suite by tactical officers but he refused.

Around 9:00 pm police say the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

A search of the suite resulted in the discovery of two .177 calibre BB pistols.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

29-year-old Scott Jason John Gibbs from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement with two counts of Possession of a Weapon and six counts of Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.

Gibbs was detained in custody.
