Police arrest man carrying semi-automatic weapon on street

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 21-year-old man after they noticed he was acting suspiciously in the area of Spence Street and Sargent Avenue.

The man was carrying a duffle bag and was trying to elude officers. The suspect threw the bad over a nearby fence. Officers stopped the man and recover the bag. Inside the bag, they found a .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle as well as ammunition. The weapon had been modified by removing part of the barrel and part of the stock.

Police also seized a small quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine.

Jason Steven Tre Sanderson, from Winnipeg, has been charged with

  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000

He was detained in custody.
