Winnipeg police arrested a 47-year-old man following a pursuit through the city’s North District late on December 28.
At approximately 11:10 p.m., General Patrol officers observed a black Honda Civic with stolen license plates being driven northbound on Powers Street towards Mountain Avenue. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading police on a dangerous pursuit.
With assistance from Air1, which provided visual containment from the sky, ground units from multiple divisions converged on the 100 block of Clearwater Road. The vehicle was successfully contained, and the driver was extracted and arrested without further incident. During the arrest, officers seized approximately 2.5 grams of Methamphetamine (estimated street value of $130) and approximately 3 grams of Fentanyl (estimated street value of $500) from the suspect.
Through their investigation, police discovered that the 2015 Honda Civic had been reported stolen from the first block of McPhillips Street on December 24. Additionally, the license plates were stolen from a parked vehicle in the first block of Greyfriars Road between December 26 and December 27.
The suspect, identified as Ian Thomas Langridge, faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement, including:
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited Pursuant to Federal or Provincial Act
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (2 counts)
Langridge, who also had an Unlawfully-At-Large warrant in his name, has been detained in custody. No injuries were reported during the approximately twenty-minute pursuit.
