Winnipeg Police a advising residents in the city to be proactive after they see a rise in the number of break and enters.
Break and enter is a common crime and is usually one of opportunity. In 2015 to 2016 police say there was a 15% increase in the number of cases related to this crime.
Police are asking Winnipegers to be aware of home security around the clock, if they are at home or away. Police say that the best way to avoid being broken into is to lock your doors and windows when you are sleeping or away from your residence. If you are working in your yard and cannot see a door or window keep it locked. This simple vigilance around your home can help prevent your property from being a target.
Beginning in mid-July police will be engaged in a residential safety audit program
