Pigs run free after semi and van collided near Morris

[jaw_highlight]STORY UPDATED[/jaw_highlight]

Dozens of pigs escaped the semi they were travelling in when the semi and a minivan collided Friday afternoon east of Morris.

It happened on Highway 23 just after 3:45 pm. According to RCMP the semi tried to pass the minivan that was in the process of turning off the highway onto Municipal Road 10 East. The semi hit the south ditch and rolled onto its side.

The hogs escaped the wrecked trailer and were roaming in the ditch when emergency crews arrived on scene.

The driver of the minivan, a 60-year-old male, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. A passenger in the van and the driver of the semi were not injured in the accident.

The hogs were eventually loaded onto another truck.

Police say that approximately 40 hogs died in the crash

Correction – RCMP had originally reported that no hogs were injured and have since changed that information. The story has been updated to reflect that change.
