Pickup truck takes out Portage Avenue flag poles, gets hung up on median

Winnipeg Police are investigating a single-vehicle collision that happened early Saturday morning on Portage Avenue at Main Street.

At approximately 12:35 am Winnipeg Transit supervisors contacted emergency services to report the collision involving a pickup truck that had severed two flag poles and was hung up on the concrete median. The vehicle suffered significant damage to the front end and fluids were leaking onto the roadway.

When emergency crews arrived on the scene they found the male driver and a female passenger still sitting in the vehicle. The pair remained in the vehicle for close to 40 minutes until shortly after police arrived on the scene at which point officers spoke with the driver and placed him in custody a few minutes later.

Speed and alcohol played a factor in the collision.

The 29-year-old driver was charged with Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired to Any Degree by BAC or Drug or a Combination of Both, Within 2 hrs of Ceasing to Operation a Conveyance is Impaired with BAC Equal or Over 80mgs

It is not known if either the driver or passenger suffered any injuries in the collision.
