Peter Nygard was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault on July 11, 2023, for an incident that happened in November 1993.

Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit began the investigation into the case of a then 20-year-old woman in June 2020. Police say the assault took place at the Nygard Corporate headquarters on Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg.

In 2022, following the investigation, materials from the investigation were sent to Saskatchewan Justice for an independent review by the Manitoba Justice Minister.

On July 10, 2023, after reviewing the opinion of Saskatchewan Justice an arrest warrant was obtained by investigators for Sexual Assault and Unlawful Confinement for 81-year-old accused.

Nygard was arrested and charged at the Toronto South Detention Centre where he remains in custody.

Nyguard is facing similar charges in Ontario, Quebec and the United States.

His trial in Ontario is slated to begin in September.
