Police say no safety concerns for public
Police were called to the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre just after 9:00 am Monday morning.
They had received reports that a person had barricaded themselves in an office located inside the centre.
Police do not believe anyone was trapped inside the office with the individual and have no indication that any weapons were involved.
By late afternoon the barricaded situation had ended but police remained on scene as a protest in support of the friendship centre took place.
In March funding for the Indian And Metis Friendship centre was pulled by the Manitoba Association of Friendship Centres because the association claimed they were concerned over the board and operational staffing at the centre.
A new board was put into place but News4 has learned that that board was dissolved last week over an issue with background checks.
