Brandon Police were busy over the weekend tracking down a number of suspects allegedly responsible for several pepper spray incident across the city.
Just after 12:30 am on Saturday, June 9, 2018, police were notified that a 19-year-old male had been sprayed with bear spray (pepper spray) while at a fair. Police investigated and a 17-year-old male from Brandon was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Breach of Recognizance.
Later Saturday, around 5:30 pm police say two employees at Brandon Shoppers Mall were assaulted with pepper spray by an Indigenous male about 20 years of age, standing 5’8″ t0 6’0″ tall. He was wearing all black according to witnesses. Police are still searching for the suspect in this incident.
Several more people were sprayed with bear spray just after 7:45 pm while at the fair. Emergency Medical Services at the fair treated the victims. Police have arrested and charged two Brandon youth, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male. Both are facing several charges in relation to the incident. Police say that several other suspects are also wanted in connection with this incident but have yet to be identified.
Just before 9:30 pm several more people were assaulted by pepper spray. This time two suspects unleashed the toxic substance in the area of Meadows school. No arrests have been made in this incident but police are continuing to investigate.
