IIU called in to investigate collision between vehicle and pedestrian on Portage Ave.

The Independent Investigations Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating a collision between a vehicle driven by an off-duty Winnipeg Police officer and a pedestrian.

The collision happened just after rush hour around 9:20 am on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, near Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street. An adult 46-year-old female was taken to Health Science Centre in unstable condition and medical personnel were able to stabilize her however as the day progressed hospital staff determined that the woman’s injuries were more serious than originally believed.

Due to the more serious nature of the victim’s injuries, Winnipeg Police returned to the scene to assist the IIU investigation in the mid-afternoon and closed Portage Avenue so that they could re-examine the scene.

 

The IIU is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or other individuals who have information or video footage that may assist this investigation to call toll free at 1-844-667-6060.
