Personal care home employee arrested for stealing from residents

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 37-year-old female employee of a Henderson Highway personal care home after she allegedly stole jewelry from residents.

Police say they began an investigation in March after they learned that a 93-year-old female living in the home had her wedding and engagement rings stolen. THe daughter of the woman, who reportet the crime, told police that her mother was incapable of removing the rings by herself.

During the investigation, officers learned that seven other victims over the age of 78 had jewellery stolen and in some of these case it was forcibly removed from their person. Police say all the victims are living with dementia and are considered vulnerable persons.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, police arrested the employee and charged her with eight counts of Theft Under $5,000 for her alleged involvement. Officers also recover some of the stolen items.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear.
