A court challenge over the leadership of the Manitoba PC Party began today in Winnipeg.
Shelly Glover who lost the leadership bid by 363 votes on October 30, 2021, is asking the court to quash the results due to alleged voting irregularities.
The court filings allege that the Glover campaign was provided a spreadsheet by the tory party that indicated 16,045 were cast but when the final vote numbers were announced an additional 501 votes appear to have been added to the total.
In affidavits to the court a former police officer working for the Glover campaign during the vote count stated that he observed ballot boxes being removed from the room the votes were being counted in.
Justice James Edmond stated in court that he believes the court has jurisdiction to hear the case but he wants full briefs from the parties involved regarding that issue.
The case has been adjourned November 19, 2021.
“It seems to me this is a matter of public interest, and the people of Manitoba need an answer,” said Edmond.
