Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a one-and-a-half storey duplex in the 300 block of Parr Street shortly after 9:40 pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
The fire was well involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was initially launched but conditions deteriorated and crews were forced to transition to a defensive attack using an aerial ladder and hand lines.
Crews were eventually able to transition back to an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 11:48 pm. firefighters did remain on-site for most of the night to address hotspots and ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
The duplex is a total loss.
The five occupants in the building were able to get out before firefighters arrived. They are being helped by Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services unit to find temporary accommodations.
No injuries were reported
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
