A 22-year-old wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole revocation tried his best to flee from police but was eventually taken down.
Police say that on Monday, September 9, 2019, officers near Arlington Street and William Avenue noticed a suspicious vehicle. While they were running the plates they followed the vehicle. When the plates came back as not belonging to the vehicle they were on police attempted to make a traffic stop.
The driver refused to pull over and took off. Air-1 immediately began tracking the vehicle as it sped through residential neighbourhoods ignoring red lights and stop signs.
Police on the ground tried to end the getaway by deploying a stop stick in the path of the vehicle but the driver swerved around it.
The pursuit eventually came to an end when the driver abandoned the vehicle in the 100 block of Tyndall Avenue and took off on foot.
Patrol officers quickly found the suspect and took him into custody.
Kyle Bradley Doerksen from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited by Order Under Criminal Code
- Drive Without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
- Attach/Permit to be Attached Number Plate Not Authorized
- Fail to Signal a Turn
Doerken was also arrested on the parole revocation warrant and detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
