The City of Winnipeg announced that as of Tuesday, May 25, 2021 they will be mailing out tickets for a number of parking offences.
Using their fleet of vehicles that are equipped with automatic licence plate readers the city says they will be mailing out offence penalties for Stopping where stopping is prohibited, Parking where parking is prohibited, Double parking, Parking on a boulevard and Parking in the wrong direction. Currently the city mails out notices for parking in fire lanes and in school zones.
The change in policy is expected to improve safety for enforcement officers by reducing confrontations and help traffic flow since officers won’t have to block traffic as they issue tickets.
Some tickets will still be placed on vehicles when necessary.
The city says vehicle owners will receive a penalty notice with a photo of the offence within seven days of the offence.
