Paramedics threatened by patient with machete

Around 4;30 am Friday morning, October 30, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service emergency responders were treating a male in his 50s who was having a medical emergency in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

While paramedics were treating the male he grabbed a machete and threatened the responders. The WFPS crew left the residence and called police for help.

Police arrived and arrested the male without incident. The suspect was cleared medically then taken into custody.

50-year-old Len Horton Joseph Courchene has been charged for his alleged involvement with four counts of Assault with Weapon and three counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order.

He was detained in custody.
