Pallister, Bowman weigh in on Boeing/Bombardier trade war

Manitoba politicians are speaking up after the United States imposed duties of 220% on Canadian made Bombardier aircraft.

Premier Brian Pallister is asking cooler heads to prevail as political rhetoric in the Canada/U.S. trade war is beginning to boilover.

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard has demanded that the federal government take retaliatory action against Boeing. Couillard’s position is that Boeing parts and planes should not be allowed to be imported into Canada until there is a resolution.

Manitoba’s premier believes that the emotional language being spouted is not helpful in resolving issues.

[jaw_quote author=”Brian Bowman – Mayor, City of Winnipeg” ]The ramifications of this dispute go far beyond any one organization or region of the country. This is about the Canadian Aerospace sector as a whole.[/jaw_quote][jaw_clear]

Brian Bowman, the mayor of the City of Winnipeg has also added his two cents to the discussion.

In a written statement issued today the city leader said, “Yesterday, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard stated that “Not a bolt, not a part, of course not a plane of Boeing” should be entering Canada until this conflict is resolved. His comments do not appear to acknowledge the reality that Quebec is not the only province affected by this dispute.”

Winnipeg is the third largest aerospace employer in the country and home to a Boeing plant that has more than 1400 employees.
