Outdoor shelters in the plans for personal care home visits

The Manitoba government announced Monday June 22, 2020, that they are planning to construct outdoor shelters at personal care homes to facilitate resident visits.

Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen said “Allowing personal care home residents to safely maintain the connections they have with their families and friends during the COVID-19 pandemic is central to their ongoing health and well-being. We are planning ahead by moving forward with the development of all-season shelters, ensuring those needed and valuable visits can remain safe and uninterrupted.”

According to the minister the shelters have yet to be designed and they will be outside the personal care home but close to it. The shelters will be capable for use year-round.

Under the plans the shelters must be protected from the elements, easily cleaned, provide space for quality connections and be accessible.

How much the shelters will cost, how many will be constructed or when the government expects them to be in use was not released.
