Winnipeg gasoline prices hit a milestone on Thursday, March 3, 2022, with many gas stations jacking the price at the pump to $1.639 per litre.
The average price of regular gas in Winnipeg prior to the jump was $1.499, meaning the cost to the consumer increased by 14 cents per litre. In Canada the average passenger vehicle has a gas tank that holds between 45 and 60 litres depending on the make and model of the vehicle. That means to fill your tank from empty it will cost you an additional $6.30 to $8.40 at today’s prices. If you drive a larger vehicle those costs are even higher.
Across Canada, gas prices are also climbing with people in Vancouver paying $1.939 per litre while in Montreal and St. John’s paying more than 1.770 per litre.
A number of things are influencing the price of oil on the world markets including the war in Ukraine. Gas prices are expected to increase even more over the next few weeks.
