OPP | POLICE LAUNCH INTENSIVE SEARCH FOR CANOE ON LAKE SUPERIOR, ARREST WINNIPEG MAN

A 27 year old Winnipeg man has been arrested and charged after the launch of a large search for a missing canoe on Lake Superior.

It all happened Wednesday August 24, 2016. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a canoe discovered that was partially under water on Wild Goose Bay near Thunder Bay and began a search of the area with the help of the Canadian Coast Guard and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

The search was initiated because the OPP found camping gear in the canoe but did not find a paddle or lifejacket.

As the investigation unfolded police found the man they believe was associated with the canoe which had allegedly been stolen from a local residence.
