A Monday night traffic stop in Portage la Prairie saw one male arrested and the seizure of loaded firearms and open liquor
RCMP say that an officer spotted a vehicle without licence plates around 9:30 pm in the community and conducted a traffic stop. As the officer approached the vehicle two shotgun shells were seen on the floor behind the drivers seat. The driver was unable to produce a licence or other identification and provided a false name.
When the vehicle was searched two loaded firearms were found along with a extendable baton which is considered a prohibited weapon.
The suspect continued to provide officers a false name but was eventually identified. Once officers knew who the suspect was they learned that he was on conditions to not possess firearms, drink alcohol and abide by a curfew.
27-year-old Jordon James McIvor from Sandy Bay First Nation was charged for his alleged involvement with three counts of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose , Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, two counts of Obstruct Peace Officer, two counts of Unsafe Storage of Firearms, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized and five counts of Failure to Comply.
McIvor also was charged for not having a driver’s licence and having open liquor in a vehicle.
