One taken to hospital from Boulton Bay apartment fire

On Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2020, emergency crews responded to the report of a fire in a six-storey apartment building on Boulton Bay.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service added a second alarm to the call in order to increase the number of firefighters and equipment on scene du to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.

When firefighters arrived on the scene smoke could be seen from one of the upper floors.

An offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly put out. The blaze was contained to one suite.

Firefighters helped some of the residents evacuate the building while others were able to safely shelter-in-place within their suites. One person was taken to hospital by paramedics in unstable condition.

The building was ventilated after the fire and most residents were then able to return to their suites.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
