One person was taken to hospital in a Kernaghan Avenue house fire on Monday night, June 28, 2021. Occupants have to find somewhere else to live in the short term.
According to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service they responded to a fire in a single storey home around 8:45 pm. Smoke was coming from the structure when crews arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was launched. Firefighters used a thermal camera to help determine where the fire was. The fire was declared under control at 9:13 pm.
Fire officials say everyone inside the building were able to self evacuate before emergency crews arrived. One person was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition. Crews located a deceased rabbit inside the home.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team arrived on scene to help residents find other accommodations until the home is safe for occupancy.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
