One new case of COVID-19 has been identified on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in Manitoba bringing the total number of lab-confirmed and probable cases in the province to 255

The number of fatalities in the province related to the virus remains at six

150 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Manitoba.

99 cases remain active.

Cadham Provincial Laboratory performed 314 tests on Monday bringing the total number of tests performed since early February to 20,319.

Health officials say that as part of their strategy to protect the health-care workforce includes enhanced screening at all health-care facilities, implement visitor restrictions and encourage virtual visits and postpone non-essential services.

To conserve personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers, public health officials are recommending people who go to a health-care facility to wear a cloth mask to protect others. Patients are encouraged to wear non-medical face masks during health-care interaction, when using public transit, hanzi-transit or a taxi.

Infection prevention and control experts have provided recommendations to public health that identifies the supplies required to protect workers in critical and priority services.

Various health settings and situations have been categorized based on the level of risk to workers and the level of PPE required for different health risks. These include:

  • green zones, which are settings and situations involving care or service for individuals who are not considered COVID-19 suspects;
  • orange zones, which are settings and situations involving care or service for individuals who meet the criteria for COVID-19 testing, AND who have been tested AND whose results are pending; and
  • red zones, which are settings and situations involving care or service for individuals who have been tested and confirmed to have COVID-19.

Public health officials continue to recommend that Manitobans continue to practice social distancing and hand washing practices.

Manitobans should stay home as much as possible. This includes travelling to cottages or second homes. If people must travel they are encouraged to:

  •  only travel with family members,
  • not visit with others on arrival,
  • avoid stopping for gas or other supplies on the way, and
  • only visit local health-care providers in case of emergency
