One man injured, one facing charges in Balmoral Street stabbing

Late Friday night, January 13, 2023, an officer with the Winnipeg Police Service K9 unit noticed a man on the ground near a puddle of blood. A man and woman were standing over him. As the officer approached the male and female fled. The officer was able to capture the fleeing man after a short chase.

Police say the victim in his 40s had been stabbed after he and the male suspect got into an argument at the beer vendor behind the Balmoral Hotel. The argument escalated to the stabbing. The victim and suspect did not know each other according to investigators.

Officers at the scene provided emergency medical help to the victim including the use of multiple chest seals. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

Ryan Kyle Nicholas, 31 of Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon.

He was detained in custody.
