Winnipeg Police are investigating after an armed suspect was shot by a police officer during an incident in the 300 block of Gertrude Avenue around 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
Police say that officers from across the city and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to a report of a male armed with a gun. When officers arrived on the scene they found the suspect in front of an apartment building with a rifle.
According to police one of the officers discharged their firearm striking an adult male. Police immediately provided emergency medical care to the male. Paramedics took the male to hospital in unstable condition.
At least three discharged tasers were seen laying on the ground at the scene and a rifle was laying on the top step on Wednesday evening while officers on-scene waited for the Forensic Unit to arrive.
Due to the nature of the incident the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is expected to be involved in the investigation.
Winnipeg Police said in a media release on Wednesday evening that no other information about the incident will be released at this time.
