Winnipeg police have one person in custody after a physical altercation occurred in a Machray Avenue apartment around 9:55 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2021.
According to police, when officers arrived at the address a male covered in blood opened the door slightly. Police could see a second male suffering from serious injuries. As officers attempted to enter the male who answered the door ran into the apartment and armed himself with a large machete.
The suspect threw an object at the officers as they made their way past the partially barricaded front door. The male then came towards the officers in a threatening manner and both officers fired their tasers at the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody.
The other male was taken to hospital in critical condition and has been upgraded to unstable.
Police say that the men were roommates.
20-year-old Kevin Andrew Grier-Bruce has been charged for his alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault, two counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and two counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
He was detained in custody.
