One found dead after fire in Higgins Avenue encampment

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to an explosion and fire in a temporary encampment on Higgins Avenue on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2021.

When crews arrived on the scene they found a temporary shelter engulfed in smoke and flames. Fire officials say they believe the reported explosions were caused by aerosols igniting.

Once the fire was out, firefighters discovered the deceased body of an individual. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
