One death, 37 new cases of COVID-19, including 30 in Winnipeg

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 37 new cases of the virus on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 1,674.

Officials also announced a woman in her 90s has died from the virus. This death is linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place personal care home. This brings the total number of deaths in the province to 19.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 2.5 per cent

Two cases in the Southern Health region, four cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region, one case in Prairie Mointain Health region and 30 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

There have been 161 cases of the virus identified in Winnipeg over the past week.

There are 11 people being treated in hospital including six people in intensive care.

There are currently 449 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 334 of those in Winnipeg, 1,243 people are listed as recovered.

1,616 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 171,661

Public health says that Grant Park High School in Winnipeg has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The infected person was in the school September 15,16 and 17. Officials say the exposure was assessed as low risk. The infection was not acquired at the school.

Public health is continuing to advise Winnipeg residents and visitors to the city to stay home if sick, wash your hands, cover your cough and physically distance when you are with people outside your household. If you cannot physically distance, you should wear a mask to help reduce your risk. Reduce the number of close contacts outside your household, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. 

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
