One Dead, One Injured in Highway 1 Collision

RCMP say that additional charges are possible in a collision that claimed the life of a Winnipeg man and critically injured another on Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Around 6:30 pm officers responded to a collision on Highway 1 in the RM of Reynolds near Municipal Road 54E

Police say that a car being driven by a man from Waterloo, Ontario was westbound on the Trans-Canada when he hit the rear corner of a semi-trailer that was parked on the side of the road. The car continued down the side of the truck striking the driver who had just exited the truck. The car then entered the ditch. The semi driver was taken to hospital in critical condition and is currently in critical but stable condition.

The 31-year-old male passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year-old driver of the car was uninjured. Police administered a roadside screening test on the driver which resulted in a warning. He was given a 72-hour immediate licence suspension notice.

The investigation continues.
