One dead in Teulon area shooting

RCMP have a 23-year-old male in custody after a woman was shot and killed late Saturday night. November 17, 2018.

Police in Teulon, about 60 kilometres north of Winnipeg, say that they responded to a call about a 20-year-old female who had been shot while seated in a vehicle on Provincial Road 231.

Police say that an altercation broke out at a bar in Fraserwood earlier in the evening the escalated to the point that the bar was closed and customers left. The accused, who had also been at the bar, left and drove about two miles south on Road 11 East (Kuz Road) and parked his vehicle. As three other vehicles belonging to others who were in the bar passed by the suspect fired at them with a rifle.

The victim was in one of the vehicles when she was shot and killed. No one else was injured during the shootings.

The suspect then took off and was tracked with help from an RCMP police dog along with Winnipeg Police Service’s AIR-1.

Jesse Paluk was captured in a field near Gimli and has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Seven counts of Attempted Murder, Discharge Firearm at a Motor Vehicle with intent to wound x3, three counts of Reckless Discharge of Firearm and Assault with a Weapon.

Paluk remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Winnipeg court on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

The investigation is continuing.
