One dead in officer-involved shooting

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating after a man died in an officer-involved shooting incident on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Winnipeg Police Service officers with the traffic division had attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Pembina Highway and Dalhousie Drive around 12:37 a.m.. According to officers the occupants of the vehicle tried to flee and an officer was pinned by the suspect vehicle. One of the police officers on the scene fired his service firearm hitting the male driver of the vehicle.

Emergency medical care was immediately give to the driver by officers and he was transported to hospital in critical condition. He soon died from his injuries.

Police say that a female passenger in the vehicle is currently in custody.

The officer who was pinned by the vehicle was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The IIU was immediately notified of the incident and investigators went to the scene and took over the investigation.
