One Dead Following Police-Involved Shooting

At approximately 12:33 p.m. on October 2, 2024, North District General Patrol officers responded to multiple reports of a male armed with edged weapons at an apartment building in the 800 block of Main Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed male in a hallway, leading to a use-of-force encounter. This included the deployment of a conducted energy weapon (taser) and the discharge of a firearm.

Officers immediately provided emergency medical care, applying a chest seal and a tourniquet. The male was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has taken over the investigation. A team of IIU investigators was deployed immediately, and due to the fatality, a civilian monitor has been requested from the Manitoba Police Commission.

Witnesses or individuals with information or video footage that may assist the investigation are urged to contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
