Police say the impact of the collision sent the semi out of control and the truck hit the ditch and rolled spilling its load of lumber across the highway. The driver of the semi and two passengers in the truck, a 42-year-old woman and a 1-year-old male infant were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating the cause of the collision and do not know if drugs or alcohol played a factor.
