ONE DEAD IN DOWNTOWN HIT AND RUN

One person is dead in an overnight hit and run collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

It happened around 3:15 am early Sunday morning in the 300 block of Carlton Street near Cumberland Avenue.

Police say the 30 year old man was crossing the street when he was hit by a vehicle that left the scene without trying to help the injured man.

The man was taken to hospital by emergency personnel in critical condition but died shortly afterwards.

Officers had the area closed until just after noon while investigators processed the scene.

Police are looking for a grey or silver mid-2000 four-door Honda Accord that would have sustained damage to the passenger-side front bumper during the collision.

Investigators are hoping to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, specifically a witness who was riding a bicycle in the vicinity of the collision, or anyone with information on the suspect vehicle.

Anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call 204-986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
