RCMP are investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of one person on Friday night, September 18, 2020.
Police say that at 8:50 pm they responded to the collision about 42 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie on Highway 34 near Road 66N just north of Highway 1.
The investigation indicates that an SUV was travelling southbound on Highway 34 when it drove through the crossing gate and hit the eastbound CN train.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to identify them.
CN Police, RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.
