Brandon Police charge shooting suspect with attempted murder

Last week News 4 told you about an incident in Brandon that involved a man firing a gun in an apartment in the 600 block of 18th Street.

It happened August 23, 2017. The suspect and a female went to the apartment and an argument happened between the resident and the suspect.

The suspect then pulled out a .22 calibre sawed-off rifle and fired at the tenant hitting a chair the man was using to defend himself and force the suspect out of the apartment. The bullet was deflected by the chair into a wall. The suspect and the woman took off after the shooting.

Brandon Police learned that on Monday,  August 28, 2017, the suspect was at a home in the North End of the city. As the man exited the Assiniboine Avenue residence he was taken into custody.

As police continued to investigate they learned that the suspect had assaulted his girlfriend inside the apartment. Police say he punched and kicked her. The suspect was taken to Brandon Correctional Centre and Methamphetamine was found hidden in his underwear.

The 27-year-old male suspect has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Attempt Murder
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Weapon
  • Careless Use of A Firearm
  • Domestic Assault
  • Possession of Methamphetamine
